* | 1. | Operates a variety of welding equipment in making repairs to various metal equipment, piping fixtures and building components, including cells, gates, bars, doors, fencing, generators, motors and a variety of other physical plant equipment. |
* | 2. | Trouble shoots, locates and corrects, or constructs items that require welding. |
* | 3. | Maintains and makes minor repairs to welding equipment. |
* | 4. | Supervises and instructs assigned inmates. |
* | 5. | Inspects inmates for contraband, and maintains security precautions at all times. |
6. | Makes work time estimates, and maintains simple records. | |
* | 7. | Inspects completed work for accuracy and completeness. |
* | 8. | Participates in the performance of a variety of routine and emergency nonwelding maintenance and repair tasks, as required. |
* | 9. | Performs duties as Correction Officer on a temporary basis, at the discretion of the Sheriff or his designated officer, as required. |
1. | Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the welding trade. | |
2. | Knowledge of industry standards, codes and regulations regarding welding. | |
3. | Skill in the care and use of welding tools and equipment. | |
4. | Ability to perform a wide variety of welding tasks in the repair of machinery, equipment and fixtures. | |
5. | Ability to supervise and instruct inmates and to maintain security precautions. | |
6. | Ability to work from and interpret technical sketches and blueprints and to make work time estimates. | |
7. | Ability to respond quickly and efficiently in emergency situations. | |
8. | Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain records. | |
9. | Ability to learn the use and care of firearms. | |
10. | Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. | |

1. | Completion of vocational school training and Four years of satisfactory experience in the welding trade; or |
2. | Six years of satisfactory experience in the welding trade. |
