1. | Splices wires to join conductor cables in order to preserve the continuity and insulation of each conductor. |
2. | Splices wires at junction of two cables and insulates splices by drying out moisture, wrapping with paraffin-soaked muslin, and by covering splices with a lead sleeve. |
3. | Tests pairs of wires for electrical continuity and insulation by means of a buzzer system. |
4. | Repairs and replaces automatic underground switches, performs maintenance service on primary and secondary underground cables; connects house services. |
5. | May work on fire alarm and traffic signal systems; may be called out during emergencies to restore power. |
1. | Working knowledge of the methods and techniques used in cable splicing. |
2. | Elementary knowledge of the theory and principles of power distribution. |
3. | Ability to splice and pull overhead and underground power cables. |
4. | Ability to understand and follow instructions. |
1. | Completion of elementary school and three years of experience as a cable splicer on power distribution systems; or, |
2. | Graduation from an electrical trade school and two years of experience as in (a); or, |
3. | Satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. |
