GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Conducts investigations to assist in determining the location and financial status of individuals legally responsible for the support of welfare recipients; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direct supervision, the work involves searching, reviewing, and verifying information to determine the possibility of obtaining reimbursement of funds for the Departments.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Interviews welfare applicants and recipients to obtain information concerning missing parent.
2.Conducts searches of various departmental records and those of other agencies to obtain required additional facts and figures.
3.Compiles information and uses appropriate local resources to confirm addresses and similar information.
4.Maintains a continuous file on the progress and results of all local investigations.
5.Furnishes State Parent Locator Service with required information, when local investigation fails to locate missing parent.
6.Prepares reports with documentary evidence as required.

*ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Knowledge of investigative techniques used in determining location and financial status of individuals.
2.Knowledge of office terminology and modern methods used in keeping and checking financial records and reports.
3.Skill in observation and perception.
4.Ability to analyze numerical and narrative types of material.
5.Ability to read and understand laws concerning support cases.
6.Ability to prepare written material.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school
and
Two years of interviewing and/or investigating experience involving public contact.

NOTE:College education in a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
