GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Acts as a special assistant to the Commissioner of Public Works by performing confidential tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the Department of Public Works; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the exercise of independent judgment in acting as a special assistant to the Commissioner of Public Works by performing confidential tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the Department of Public Works.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Acts as special assistant to the Commissioner of Public Works by performing confidential tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the Department of Public Works.
2.Consults with and advises the Commissioner on matters concerning departmental operations and efficiency; collaborates with Deputy Commissioners and unit heads within the Department.
3.Acts as liaison officer between the Department of Public Works, the general public, contractors, vendors, and the County Legislature.
4.Receives, investigates, and resolves complaints from the public and outside agencies concerning the activities of the Department's; employees, consultants, or contractors.
5.Assists in developing policy pertaining to personnel and related matters.
6.Prepares reports for the Commissioner's review.
7.May speak at public events on behalf of the Commissioner.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Thorough knowledge of the principles of office management.
2.Thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
3.Knowledge of the operations and responsibilities of the Department of Public Works.
4.Ability to gather, assemble, and evaluate facts and evidence and to arrive at sound and logical conclusions.
5.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, departmental administrators, municipal administrators, claimants, and the general public.
6.Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.
7.Ability to prepare accurate and concise reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
One year of satisfactory administrative experience involving responsibility for office management, supervision, and/or public relations.

NOTE:Experience, as outlined above, in excess of the one-year requirement may be substituted for college education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years.
