GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs skilled barbering work in a public institution; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the position requires the use of skill and judgment in barbering and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy and completeness.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Cuts hair and shaves patients, inmates or residents in a shop, ward, cell or at bed side.
2.Shaves patients for pre-operative purposes.
3.Sterilizes tools and equipment and keeps shop clean and orderly.
4.Inventories and prepares requisitions for supplies and equipment.
5.Performs special barbering services as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Considerable knowledge of the methods, techniques and equipment used in the barbering trade.
2.Skill in the care and use of barbering tools and equipment.
3.Ability to perform barbering services under difficult conditions and circumstances.
4.Ability to inventory and requisition supplies and equipment.
5.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Completion of barber college training;
and
2.One year of experience in the barbering trade.

Necessary Special Requirement
Eligibility for a license as a barber as issued by the State of New York.
