GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs and supervises the operation of the Police Surgeon's office; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision of superior police officers, the duties include the supervision of subordinate police surgeons and the implementation of departmental policy and procedures in the conduct of the Police Surgeon's office.

TYPICAL DUTIES
*1 Directs, supervises, and participates in the conduct of physical and medical examinations of and in furnishing medical treatment to members of the police force.
2.Provides guidance to staff in the application of departmental policy.
3.Supervises the maintenance of records and the preparation of reports.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine.
2.Ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
3.Ability to direct and supervise operation of a police surgeon's office.
4.Ability to establish effective working relationships with patients, associates, and superior police officers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
1.Graduation from an approved school of medicine.
2.No satisfactory equivalency of training and experience.

Necessary Special Requirement
Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State.
