GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans, directs and coordinates the activities of criminal investigators in the District Attorney's office; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under direction of the District Attorney, the duties provide supervision by coordinating and directing subordinate criminal investigators engaged in investigating and assembling evidence to assist in gaining a conviction in a Court of law or to warrant a Grand Jury hearing preparatory to a possible indictment.

TYPICAL DUTIES
1.Plans, assigns, directs, and reviews the work of Special Investigators, Detective Investigators, Criminal Intelligence Analysts, and Investigative Accountants.
2.Participates in conferences in matters relating to cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.
3.Participates in conferences on matters relating to policy, procedures, and control.
4.Prepares reports and evaluations relating to investigations.
5.Participates in investigations, raids, interrogations of witnesses, execution of arrest warrants, undercover work, surveillance, and use of investigative apparatus.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.Extensive knowledge of principles and methods of criminal investigations and law enforcement.
2.Extensive knowledge of the basic rules of evidence.
3.Thorough knowledge of applicable statutes, Court decisions, and rulings pertaining to violations of laws.
4.Skill in ascertaining facts by personal contact, observation, and examination of records.
5.Skill in the use of and care of firearms and in unarmed defense.
6.Ability to plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of subordinates.
7.Ability to testify effectively in Court.
8.Ability to prepare detailed and complete reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university
and
Six years of experience in criminal investigation work, including three years in a supervisory capacity.

NOTE:Experience, as outlined above, in excess of six years may be substituted for college education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years. There is no substitution for the supervisory experience.
