1. | Conducts initial individual lay-counseling sessions with newly admitted alcoholic clients. |
2. | Participates in follow-up counseling sessions to ascertain clients' attitudes, insights and motivations. |
3. | Assists and participates in group counseling sessions. |
4. | Gathers and assembles necessary background history and prescribed data for Social Worker. |
5. | Advises and counsels clients' immediate family. |
6. | Keeps records and prepares reports. |
1. | Knowledge of practices and procedures relating to rehabilitation counseling. |
2. | Knowledge of individual and group behavior of alcoholics. |
3. | Knowledge of the personal attributes of an alcoholic. |
4. | Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, and other staff members. |
5. | Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing. |
1. | Graduation from high school and Two years of satisfactory paid or volunteer experience as a lay-counselor in a recognized alcoholism treatment facility; or |
2. | Completion of one year of study at a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university and One year of the above experience. |
